New Roads Recovery Treatment Centre
This past year we were able to visit the women’s side of the New Roads Therapeutic Recovery Community which was a deeply moving experience. From the moment you step inside, the space feels welcoming, calm, and safe. There’s a sense of care woven into every corner—care that surrounds each woman as she does the courageous work of healing. Seeing the programs in action made the impact tangible and real, and it left us feeling inspired and even more connected to the important work happening there every day.
For many women graduating from treatment, the transition back into independent life can be one of the most vulnerable stages of recovery. This challenge is often even greater for mothers who hope to reunite with their children but don’t have access to safe, supportive housing. Without the right environment, families face an increased risk of separation—or relapse—at a time when stability matters most.
The Reunification House was created to change that reality. A home has been secured to become Vancouver Island’s first second-stage recovery residence specifically for mothers and their children. For up to two years, families will be able to live together in a structured, recovery-focused environment. Mothers will have access to counselling, case management, peer support, and life- and parenting-skills programming, while children will receive tailored supports designed to meet their unique needs.
This project extends the vital work of the Women’s Therapeutic Recovery Community by bridging the gap between treatment and independent living. By keeping families together and providing the tools and support needed to rebuild trust, stability, and connection, the Reunification House lays the foundation for long-term recovery—and the possibility of lasting, generational change.
