Established in 1998, the Victoria Youth Clinic (VYC) provides integrated and comprehensive primary health care services, including mental health and addiction care for youth ages 12 to 24 years. The VYC team includes doctors, nurses, counsellors, psychiatrists, outreach workers, youth support workers, a parent support worker, a wellness navigator and administrative staff – all of whom are dedicated and skilled youth-focused professionals.

While government agencies fund the clinic’s core mission, the extended care provided to help the most at-risk is funded entirely through donations. VYC’s healthcare teams work collaboratively to provide services at the forefront of the community’s needs: mental health, substance use, primary care, social services, and peer support. This includes free access to drop-in counselling sessions and links to a variety of services including job training, housing supports, and alternative education.

The Courtnall Society for Mental Health’s grant will support the following projects:

1. Harm reduction supplies: By providing safe and non-judgmental care and access to resources, the VYC provides support before health impacts become severe. Some of the tools include condoms, nasal naloxone spray, sharps containers, and first aid kits.

2. Urgent need hampers: These hampers enable the VYC to meet the individual needs of the most vulnerable clients. Helping them fulfill their essential needs, it also keeps youth engaged with services so they can continue to receive necessary support.

While government agencies fund the clinic’s core mission, the extended care provided to help the most at-risk is funded entirely through donations. This includes community outreach, peer support, and family support groups.  The Courtnall Society for Mental Health is proud to support VYC’s efforts to provide a high level of care and a holistic approach to health for Greater Victoria youth.
