Take a Hike Foundation

The Courtnall Society for Mental Health is proud to recognize Take a Hike Foundation as one of our 2024 Grant Recipients. This Vancouver-based organization is transforming the lives of vulnerable youth by integrating mental health and emotional well-being support into their education. Take a Hike partners with public school districts to offer a full-time program within alternate education classrooms, specifically designed for youth facing significant challenges.

Their mission is simple yet profound: to equip these young individuals with the resilience, skills, and confidence they need to graduate high school, form healthy relationships, and navigate the complexities of young adulthood. At the heart of Take a Hike’s approach is a unique blend of intensive clinical counselling, outdoor adventures, and the creation of a supportive, close-knit community. These elements come together to create an environment where students feel seen, heard, and valued—an essential foundation for growth and healing.

Clinical Counselling: Each student receives personalized mental health support from a clinical counselor embedded within the classroom. This ensures that emotional well-being is prioritized alongside academics, giving students the tools to manage their mental health and navigate personal challenges.

Outdoor Adventures: Regular outdoor activities play a vital role in the program. Whether it’s hiking, kayaking, or camping, these experiences provide a space for youth to build confidence, develop resilience, and connect with the natural world in meaningful ways.

Community Support: Take a Hike fosters a sense of belonging by creating a supportive environment where students, staff, and community members work together. This network of care helps youth develop trust, build strong relationships, and feel empowered to take control of their future.
Take a Hike’s holistic approach doesn’t just prepare youth to graduate high school—it prepares them to thrive. The program equips students with practical tools to build emotional resilience, foster healthy relationships, and overcome life’s challenges. The impact is life-changing, breaking cycles of adversity and creating opportunities for brighter futures. We are honored to support Take a Hike Foundation in its mission to empower vulnerable youth. Together, we’re helping to remove barriers to mental health care and ensure that every young person has the opportunity to succeed—no matter their circumstances.
