Cowichan Lake Community Services Society
The Courtnall Society for Mental Health is proud to support Cowichan Lake Community Services Society (CLCSS) as one of our 2024 Grant Recipients. Founded in 1972, CLCSS has been a cornerstone of support for residents in the Cowichan Lake area, working tirelessly to improve the quality of life for the community through a variety of social and economic development programs. Governed by a locally elected Board of Directors, the society is deeply rooted in the community it serves, ensuring that the programs and services offered are tailored to the unique needs of the residents. With a focus on improving both the social and economic well-being of the area, CLCSS has become an essential part of life in the Cowichan Lake region.
CLCSS provides a broad range of services that address the diverse needs of its community, including:
Counselling Services: Offering essential mental health support for children, youth, and families, CLCSS provides a safe space for individuals to explore their emotions, build resilience, and address challenges in their lives. These services are critical in fostering the mental well-being of the next generation and supporting families through difficult times.
WorkBC Employment Assistance: Through WorkBC, CLCSS helps individuals gain access to job training, career counseling, and employment opportunities, empowering them to build stable and sustainable livelihoods. This program is essential in a rural area, where employment opportunities can sometimes be limited.
Homelessness Prevention: As housing insecurity continues to impact communities across the province, CLCSS is committed to preventing homelessness through support services, providing individuals and families with the resources they need to maintain stable housing.
Youth Programs: CLCSS offers a variety of youth-focused initiatives that provide young people with positive outlets for personal growth, education, and community engagement. These programs help build resilience, leadership skills, and self-confidence in the youth of Cowichan Lake.
A significant aspect of CLCSS’s work is its commitment to supporting individuals in rural areas, particularly those in Cowichan Lake and surrounding regions. By focusing on the unique needs of residents in more remote communities, CLCSS plays a vital role in reducing disparities and increasing access to services that might otherwise be unavailable.
Additionally, CLCSS recognizes the importance of supporting Indigenous initiatives within the Cowichan Lake region. By working in partnership with Indigenous communities, CLCSS ensures that its programs are culturally sensitive, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of Indigenous peoples. We are honored to support this dedicated organization as it continues its important work in Cowichan Lake. Through their programs, CLCSS is not only improving the lives of individuals but also strengthening the social fabric of the entire community. To learn more about CLCS and their incredible work, visit www.comserv.org.
